Sorry, but I don't know the exact numbers, but the reason the desertion rate of the FFL is so high, is because some people who come from poor countries, go there for a French passport (which they can apply for after 5 years of service, I believe.)

When they are there, they realise it's not as easy as they thought it would be, and they do not want to stay for the full 5 years.

Desertion from the FFL is not as hard as it is for normal armies, because deserters are generally safe from the French (military) police, after they've crossed the border back into their homeland.
