Bella Swan, a human, meets and falls in love with Edward Cullen, a vampire. Twilight is about Edward pushing Bella away, stating a relationship would be to dangerous for her. However he eventually gives this tactic up and they begin to date. They run into some trouble along the way (mainly from James, another vampire) as Bella is bitten. She's saved. They live happily ever after (until New Moon that is.)
So basically what is going on in Eclipse is that Victoria (one of the bad vampires) is still out to get revenge on Edward Cullen for killing her mate, James. Victoria is creating more vampires to make an army to fight the Cullens and kill Bella. In this book, Jacob and Edward still don't really like each other, but they both use what they have to protect their love, Bella.
