Salman Rushdie's book, Luka and the Fire of Life, is an allegory about the proper use of time.
Luka is a twelve-year-old boy who plays too many Video Games. When his father becomes comatose and is in the process of dying, Luka goes on a magical journey to another world of magic.
With the help of his new friends, who are magical beings of mythological lore, he goes on a a trek that is strangely akin to his life as a video gamer, with the major exception that he is now living this life as opposed to living vicariously through his games.
Through his game-like journey, he has to secure the Fire of Life to save his dying father. The real-world equivalent to the magical trek is using ones experience in life to make for an experiential life worth living.
