It is About a Boy (Jesse Stuart when he was a kid) who did strange things when he goes to school, he rides a mule to school, during the lunch hour he hide from other students because he doesn't want them to see him eat Pork Fat . One day a professor called Harbert started teaching General Science at the school, Professor Hebert said that everyone should do a project for science and the last date to turn the projects is at the end of the year. Then Jesse got an idea of what project he will do, he decided to make Corn Field his project, So he and his brother started planting the corn. After he finishes it and tell his classmates they laugh then they really understand and accept him.

The spiraling cornfield symbolizes the boys growing self-esteem. And once he finishes the cornfield is when he finally has high self-esteem.
