A hambone frill collar is a description of a type of collar that resembles the paper covers used to put around baked hams or chop bones to protect the fingers when eating. This description is used by William Golding in his novel Lord of the Flies page 21"from throat to ankle, were hidden by black cloaks which bore a long silver cross on the left breast and each neck was finished off with a hambone frill".

There's no fun in playing it safe. Why not try something a little unhinged?
