These are the main Harry Potter Characters and a short description on their background and what kind of person they are:

Harry Potter: He's very confident and a born leader. He feels very strongly about getting rid of Voldemort and is very noble. His weakness is that he always feels the need to save people and doesn't like people suffering because him.

Hermione Granger: She's the clever one who is very logical and likes to do things straight from the book. At the start, she was nervous about breaking the rules, but Harry and Ron's influence has relaxed her a bit.

Ron Weasley: He always feels like he's second best at everything, being in a family with 6 children and having Harry Potter as a best friend. He's quite protective over Ginny and is always teased by his brothers. He tends to get jealous quite a lot, especially if Hermione is in the picture.

Ginny Weasley: She's grown up with 5 older brothers and no sisters, so you could say she was tough from the beginning. She's a very ambitious girl and later turns out to be very flirty. She's extremely beautiful and quite clever. She's had a huge crush on Harry since very early on.

Draco Malfoy: He's the "baddy" in Hogwarts. His dad, Lucius Malfoy is a very high up death eater and very rich. Malfoy is a snob and hates all Muggle-borns or "Mudbloods" as he calls them. He is always boasting of being pure blood and hates Harry.

"Professor" Albus Dumbledore: He takes a liking to Harry right from the start and later gives him private lessons on Voldemort's past. He is the cleverest and most powerful Wizard of the Age and is very noble. He likes to give Harry the chance to test himself.

"Professor" Severus Snape: All the signs point him towards being bad: he's an ex-death eater, he hates Harry, loves the Dark Arts, but who can really be sure what lies behind his face? His slicked back greasy hair and favour to the Slytherins are good enough reasons to guarantee the student body hates him.

Sirius Black: He's Harry's godfather and a little irresponsible. He's handsome and daring and constantly making jokes and brightening the mood. He's very generous- he gave Harry his Firebolt!- and is a very fun person to be with.

Remus Lupin: He's very talented in Defence Against the Dark Arts and is a werewolf! He's cautious as well as fun, and is extremely clever. At school, he was very popular and tried to lead a normal life.

Tom Riddle "Lord Voldemort": He's practically evil personified! He hates all muggle borns and murders people and wrecks havoc for fun. He cares for no-one but himself and works alone - completely alone - although his most dedicated Death Eaters try to believe differently. His whole life resolves around killing Harry Potter.
