Paul McCartney's first post-Beatles album was simply titled McCartney, and was released in April 1970. He had worked on songs and recordings on his own, in the months between Abbey Road and remixes on Let It Be, and played all the instruments himself. (New wife Linda sang harmonies.)

McCartney issued the album at nearly the same time as both Ringo Starr's first solo album (Sentimental Journey) and Let It Be, and included an interview (with questions drawn up by the Apple Press Office) stating he had no further plans to work with the other Beatles.
