John Holt (the educator) was born April 14th, 1923 and was a staunch proponent of homeschooling or unschooling. As the oldest of three children Holt attended private school and found, to his dissatisfaction, that the education gained in those establishments was lacking. Following many years of attempting to work with the school system Holt gave up and began to promote youth rights and home schooling. Holt's work influenced educational institutions and prompted organization of groups dedicated to ending age discrimination.
