Helga Hufflepuff's cup is a small, golden cup with the Hufflepuff badger on it. It is one of Voldemort's Horcruxes; in the seventh book, Harry, Ron, and Hermione break into Gringotts (with the help of the goblin Griphook) and steal it from Bellatrix Lestrange's vault. Later in the book, Hermione destroys it with basilisk fangs from the Chamber of Secrets.

Helga Hufflepuff's cup first appears in a memory during Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. It appears again in the next book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Because Tom Riddle (Voldemort) stole the cup from Hepzibah, a lady descended from Helga Hufflepuff, when he murdered her and framed Hokey the house-elf.

When Voldemort makes this a horcrux he needs a safe place for it to be kept, he could have put it in a volt of his own but that would have been to obvious. So he get Bellatrix, who is so devoted to him that she would do anything for him, to place it in her volt, which she does though she does not know what it is. This is why she is so nervous when she questions Hermione where the sword came from, because she had something that she was protecting for the Dark Lord and she didn't want to fail her job.

Harry correctly guessed that Bellatrix Lestrange was terrified that they had broken into her Gringotts vault and found something she was hiding for Voldemort. So they really did break into her vault where Harry spotted the cup.
