It is episode 18 of season 4, The episode is actually called 'Hawkeye' because it is a monolog of him, after he gets a concution. So, he is trying to stay awake, and he starts to go crazy basicly.
Hawkeye says this line in the episode "Sometimes you hear the Bullet." This was after his buddy Tommy told him the story about a young man who was killed, and is the inspiration for the book that he was writing.
In the MAS*H episode "Kim," Hawkeye is reading to a child from "The Swiss Family Robinson." The story serves as a distraction and comfort for the child during a difficult time.
