James later joined the Order while Snape became a death eater making them enemies who fought for different sides in the war. James also married Lily Evans, the girl that Snape always loved.

Then the story would be completely different. If Lord Voldemort had a child, and subsequently a grandchild, it would mean he was a different person and so wouldn't be someone trying to take over the world. Also, Harry would have been raised with different values and so the prophecy would probably only apply to Neville Longbottom.
