TV channel 6's audio frequency is 87.75 MHz FM, so it's a side effect of the fact that WLFM-LP is actually a low-power TV station on analog channel 6. Like many of these stations, the people who run WLFM are programming it as an FM radio station. "Pulse 87.7" in New York City is perhaps the most prominent example of the phenomenon. Most modern radios "tune down" to 87.7, which is actually just before the start of the FM band (88.1). The side effect applies to any TV station on analog channel 6. Until the June 12 digital transition, many full power channel 6 outlets were heard on 87.7 - including ABC affiliates like WPVI/Philadelphia and WSYX/Columbus. Many of those stations promoted it, reminding commuters that they could hear audio of newscasts in the car. TV stations on digital channel 6, even if they broadcast on that actual channel (like WPVI), do not have the same ability...since it only works for analog TV.
