The Knapp Shoe Company, founded in 1921 by Elwin and Clarence Knapp, was sold to the Iron Age Corporation where subsequently manufacturing was moved to China. In January 2007 Iron Age together with Knapp, filed for bankruptcy.

Avram Grossman, a former Knapp Sales Counselor who also ran the Knapp Shoe website, purchased the original tooling, patterns and lasts that went into making Knapp Shoes. Now known as KB Footwear (in tribute to the Knapp Brothers), KBF Boots and Shoes are "Made in America, again" using the original tooling, and improved quality materials and workmanship.
