Damien Echols was sentenced to death and remains on death row in solitary confinement in Arkansas. Jason Baldwin was sentenced to life in prison, and Jessie Misskelley was sentenced to life in prison plus 40 years.

All three of them remain in prison, pending appeals. In 2007, a hair was found in the ligature of victim Michael Moore, which was consistent with Terry Hobbs, the step-father of Stevie Branch. Another hair, which had DNA that was consistent with David Jacoby (Terry Hobbs' best friend) was also found at the scene. The circuit court judge who originally tried the West Memphis Three (WM3), Judge Burnett, had denied an evidence hearing for the WM3. The defense appealed the decision to the Arkansas State Supreme Court (ASSC), and in November 2010, the ASSC revised the circuit court judge's decision, and remanded it to hold an evidence hearing.

The defense intends to call six prominent forensic pathologists and other experts, to testify that the injuries which were allegedly caused by a knife, were actually the result of animal predation.

There are also rumors that the State of Arkansas plans to show that Jessie Misskelley has continued to confess and admit his involvement in the crimes.

John Mark Byers, the adopted father of Christopher Byers, is now a supporter of the WM3, advocates for their release, and has started a blog about the case.

Pamela Hobbs, the mother of Stevie Branch, and ex-wife to Terry Hobbs, advocates for a new trial, does not believe the WM3 have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and reluctantly expresses doubt about her ex-husband's innocence in the murders.

The Moore family remains satisfied with the original verdict.
