Although a fair to middling keyboard player - I doubt Dr. Rothwell ever played seriously with Mother's Finest. He claimed that the "Mike" mentioned on one of the liner notes was a reference to him - but that, in fact, was Mike Keck and not Rothwell. You'll see Keck listed on some of the albums as the keyboardist as well. Keck is now a professor at Julliard. I can't disprove that Rothwell may have filled in for a session or the like - but his claim to being a part of Mother's Finest appears to be wishful thinking........

The Superior Oil Co . was incorporated in Coalinga, CA in 1921 by William M. Keck, a local oil driller. Keck later formed the renowned W.M. Keck Foundation in 1954. Keck was head of Superior Oil until 1963 when his son Howard B. Keck took over. The elder Keck died in 1964. At some point the corporate headquarters moved from L.A. to Houston. The 1950's Superior Oil Building in Hollywood is on the Federal Historic Preservation Registry and is now the Standard Hotel. The Keck family held controlling interest in the company until a family proxy fight between Howard and his sister Willametta Keck Day resulted in the company being acquired by Mobil Oil in 1985.
The Keck Observatory is located near the summit of Mauna Kea on the Big Island of Hawaii. It consists of two telescopes, Keck I and Keck II, which are among the largest and most scientifically productive telescopes in the world.
