Bohemia is Latin for "the land of Bois" (Bojove in original Czech), Bojove was a Celtic tribe in the heart of central Europe, today´s Czech Republic, which than merged with Slavic populace coming from East. The name Bohemia was tha used for the first Czech regular state (from 9/10 century AD) with seat at the Vysehrad Castle in Prague, the biggest and one of the oldest castle system in the world. The reigning dynasty of first bohemian state was the Przemyslid House (Přemyslovci),after it´s peak when half przemyslid half Luxembourg Czech king Charles IV was elected Holy Roman Emperor in 14th cent. (better to say this emperor from Luxembourg dynasty adopted Czech "citizenship" he inherited from his mother, the last member of the ancient Přemyslid House). After decline of power of the state at the Time of Charles´s sons due to the Hussite Wars (rel. reform 100 yrs before Luther, hussite warlord Jan Zizka defended several German crusades with peasants only, half and at the end completely blind, never lost a battle in his life, tough guy,) )the bohemian throne was - a notable moment in history - filled by Jiri from Podebrady, proabably only King in not-modern-History who was elected (by the Parliamentary House of Noblemen only, not by general public, we are in 15th century here, but still in a very democartic fashion). After his Death (he was one of the first having a vision of United States of Europe), Czech gentry thought it would be a good idea to fetch themselves a King from some mighty European House, and when the English (connected via marriages) refuted to send one of their princes, bohemian gentry tried the nearby Austria-settled House of Habsbourg, which Rule began in a democratic Fashion, as a Union of separate states unified with the Person of the King/Emperor,but shortly the austrians "politically anected" bohemian lands and made them only inferior part of Austrian Empire. That was the End of Bohemia, because after the decline of Asutrian Empire in 1918,the term Bohemia was merely obsolete, so as Czech sentiments for monarchical form of government, and therefore short, but glorious story of pre-war Czechoslovakia begins.
