The terms "Round the bend" and "Bomb happy" are both slang terms for insanity. Bomb happy probably derives from the wartime condition suffered by many soldiers which was known as being 'Shell shocked,' nowadays it would probably be termed Post traumatic shock disorder.
Simon is an epileptic and during an epileptic fugue he has an internalised conversation with the evil which he knows dwells within us all. He mentally projects this inner beast onto the pig's head on a stick which Jack has left as an offering for the imagined beast.
Butterflies can make nature seemingly innocent, in the book "The Lord of the Flies", William Golding shows how butterflies play a critical yet subtle role. In our society butterflies can show beauty to nature and can represent the short cycle of life that is experienced. On page 151 it says ""Even the butterflies deserted the open space where this obscene thing grinned and dripped." Golding shows us that even the innocent beauty of butterflies flee its evil surroundings. In chapter 3, "Nothing moved but a pair of gaudy butterflies that danced round each other in the hot air." These butterflies symbolize something that is not in common with the pig head but symbolize the immortal soul.

A round character is a character who changes throughout the story. Let's say at the beginning he was afraid but at the end he faced his fears. That is the definition to round character.A flat character is one who doesn't change. He comes at the 2nd chapter then leaves then comes back at 6th chapter but didn't change at all.The main character in a story is almost always a round character; that character develops as the story progresses.
