It is not unlike Steve Miller's "pompatous of love" in "The Joker." It is an evocative lyric that may have to do with a Christian fraternity founded in 1985, which is truly remarkable since the song was written in 1970, or perhaps it is really a "bitter guy." Since the song is about the experience of love and fatherhood, I think it's reasonable to say that it will mean something different and personal to everyone who listens to it.
It's also worth remembering that Don McLean, when asked what the lyrics to "American Pie" mean, said, "It means I never have to work again." ;-)
