Even though you (hopefully) know this, he was in actor in the 80's/90's (though, in the 70's as a teenager, he starred in a Canadian TV show called Leo & Me, but he didn't get famous until Family Ties)

But he had to retire acting in 2001 because of Parkinson's disease (he was actually diagnosed with it in 1991, but his doctor said he could continue acting for another 10 years, so he did until the time came)

So today, he continues with his foundation, the Michael J. Fox Foundation - which is to raise research money for Parkinson's disease, so a cure can be found.
