To be short and sweet...... A DEA Agent basically gets leads on illegal drug dealers and suppliers. They then investigate and carry out raids and take downs going up higher and higher in the drug ring. Once a dealer is caught the agent can give an option to reduce charges if the dealer gives leads to the supplier. The dealer willing to help becomes a CI or confidential informant, they do drug deals and lead agents higher up the drug chain. If they get high enough they could even go international and stop the drugs at the source.
