Ned Kelly was a notorious bushranger in Australia. Contrary to popular belief, he was not a hero, but a murderer. There is a misconception that he was a noble man who gave some of his "pickings" to the poor, but there is no evidence to support this. The reason he is sometimes regarded as a hero is because he was a larrikin who flouted the law.

Kelly was arguably best known for his famous armour. He and his gang members wore armour which was fashioned from mouldboards, which were the curved boards/ metal plates of a farmer's plough or cultivator. Finishing touches to the armour and helmets were made with pieces of leather and iron bolts.
