They never "killed" Rock Music. MTV helped promote every genre of music. MTV still plays some rock music, just not as much as it use to because rock music now has so many more harsh words in it. Since there are more harsh words they dont want the young people to be exposed to the foul language at their age. They try to help keep the younger children from having to deal with those words till they are older or if they can never.

Obviously MTV didn't kill music since it still exists in every form & genre.

They didn't really kill music but since MTV has a lot of viewers, they put on a lot of the lame auto tune music which makes people like that music more instead of the music that was original and actually meant something.

-

They certainly killed Music Videos since they no longer exist on their channel. Granted alternative cable channels like MTV Classic & MTV Live air videos but the are only available on digital preferred cable tiers so unless you're willing to pay extra money they aren't seen.

It popularized the music video and became a central location for promoting new artists. With MTV, fans had access to music and music news all in one spot.
