The compiler of "The Vinton Memorial", John Adams Vinton, (1858) and the historical and genealogical reviewer who reviewed the book upon its completion, not withstanding some minor discrepancies, unite in the following conclusions: 1) The name VINTON originated as an old British or Celtic name; 2) That this name and the family passed, at a very early period, from England to France; 3) That sometime between the 16th and 17th centuries, it passed from France to England again, and thence to the New World.

Note: More complete and extensive information of the origin of the Vinton name and its meaning can be found in the Introductory Memoir pg. 1-10 of "The Vinton Memorial" and the Review pg. 1-4 at the end of the book.
