The Big Trees (1952)
In Technicolor, 89 minutes., Directed by Felix Feist, Photography by Bert Glennon, Music by Heinz Roemheld, with Kirk Douglas, Eve Miller, Patrice Wymore, Edgar Buchanan, John Archer, Alan Hale, Jr., Roy Roberts, Charles Meredith, Harry Cording, and Ellen Corby. (Warner Brothers) Much of the action was shot at Williams Grove, a state park, also at the preserves of the Carlotta Lumber Company and the Hammond Lumber Company, and at the community of Orick. The Elder's cabin was built in its entirety on location, used for interiors and exteriors, and then crushed, as required, by a 'topped' tree. Makeup was applied to trees in the foreground of scenes in order to reduce their red color and make them more realistic looking. The Big Trees, which was allowed to lapse into the public domain, gives no credit to Peter B. Kyne, though the film is obviously based on the story.

The movie Hoosiers was filmed in Ninevah, Indiana. My dad was actually in the 3rd grade at the time and went to Nineveh Elementary, where it was filmed. The school isn't there anymore because it combined with Green Township and is now one big school: Indian Creek. :)
