If you're a geek like me and like Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny as much as I do, you would watch it with the commentary on. I can safely say I'm so obsessed with the movie I've watch Jack & Kyle's commentary twice and Liam's once. In the commentary it talks about the cartoon playing on Kyle's TV. If I'm not mistaken (which I may very well be, watch the commentary if you want to be sure), I believe they said that the cartoon was from the 70's and that they re-recorded the narration (what is being said during the cartoon in the movie was not what was originally said in the cartoon). That's all I can help ya with.

If your target audience is children, or teenagers, you would want to use a cartoon animation to convey your messages, e.g Tom & Jerry, Looney Tunes, etc. Having said this, you can also use cartoon animations to target an adult audience, as long as the script is effective enough, e.g. The Simpsons, Family Guy, etc. Cartoons are generally cute, quirky, funny and therefore high in entertainment value. So, if you want to convey a message entertainingly, cartoon animations are one of the best ways to do this.
