Ricardo Arjona
Ricardo Arjona was born in Antigua, Guatemala on January 28, 1964. It is said to be the most colonial city in Guatemala. Tourists visit Antigua for its natural beauty and historical monuments. According to the 2007 census the population stands at the high point of 34,685 in only a 442.6 square kilometers area. Some of the favorite foods of people there are black pineapple, green figs (bananas), breadfruit, christophene, goat water, barbeque chicken, roast suckling pig, and cockles.
Ricardo is one of the most respected Latin artists. He not only performs his songs, but he writes them as well. He has been interested in music since a young age and but then decided to be a rural schoolteacher. He was athletic and played Basketball for the Guatemalan national team. In his spare time he continued to play his guitar and write songs. Even though basketball was an interest he realized that music was his one true love and moved to Mexico City. Once he got there he started his music career. He played for many student festivals. With him playing in a lot of festivals his performance status quickly rose.
He quickly found a contract through Polygram. His album, Dejame Decir Que Te Amo, (Let Me Say I Love You) failed. Arjona spent the next five years of his life being a teacher. He sometimes wrote songs recorded by other artists. After about five years he moved to Buenos Aires, and being his music career again. This time he came more prepared with material more suited to his experience. His song was named "Jesus Verbo No Sustantivo," a song about when he was a child at a Catholic School. With this song he was gained a contract with Sony. Sony released some of his most popular albums, including Adentro. Adentro was released in 2005 and was nominated for a 2006 Grammy in the Latin Pop Album category.
Lyrically, the song revolves around immigration, telling the story of a man who abandons his country to another in search of a better quality of life. The song aims to personalize the illegal immigration issue and ask questions to reveal another view of undocumented immigration.
