Around Stockton, California is what I have seen posted elsewhere. The Moss in the tree's were shipped in from the South. To me the location looks very much like the Delta section of Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas, though the moss is not seen ithat far north in Mississippi or Arkansas.
It was filmed right next Elkhorn Golf course off Davis road in 1967. My Dad was head golf pro at the time and my brother and I watched them build the film set. I asked my Dad why they were building those ugly buildings on stilts ? And he said it was for a movie. Back then there was nothing out there other than the golf course and a 4 room school house. My brother and I use to go on that property to find gopher snakes and other fun stuff but the owner kept running us off. His last name was Brown and we called him "old man Brown " I was 7 years old and my brother Greg was 8
For kids that age living on a golf course and having thousands of acres of nothing but fields and a few railroad tracks and irrigation ditches to play in it was haven !!
