The rating is supposedly PG. I think it is way scarier than that. I would still watch it though.

At the time Jaws (1975) was released, there was no PG-13, which is what it probably would be rated today. PG-13 did not appear until July 1, 1984, after parents reacted negatively to the PG rating Steven Spielberg's Indian Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) received. Jaws (1975), another Steven Spielberg film, also received complaints regarding its MPAA rating.

However the 1975 advertising always suggested "maybe too intense for younger children" when stating the PG rating. That fact seems to have been forgotten now.
