Actually that is a common misconception. The cover you are referring to is by the band Shades Apart who recorded the Soft Cell original "Tainted Love" on their 1995 album Save It. There are some similarities between the vocal stylings of Mike Ness of Social Distortion and Mark V of Shades Apart, but other than that there really are no similarities. Shades Apart peaked in 1999 with their minor hit "Valentine" and really did nothing since and are no longer together. While Social D is still rocking strong to this day.
