John Frusciante left the Red Hot Chili Peppers twice. He was their guitarist from 1988 to 1992, when he left because he was overwhelmed by the huge popularity of Blood Sugar Sex Magik. He then, sadly, became a drug addict for some years but then entered rehab and rejoined the band in 1998 in time for their album Californication, which sold 16 million copies. In 2009, he announced that he was once again leaving the band, and he did not attend the 2012 ceremony in which the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
