Then one night they were talking out their windows to each other and then the little girls mom comes in and beats the girl to death. The boy goes to her funeral. Concrete Angel was written by Stphanie Bentley and Rob Crosby. Martina McBride released her Top 5 rendition in 2002. According to a 2007 interview, McBride stated that the song is just a way to get people to be more aware of child abuse. The song was not written about any one person or situation. People see by don't ask and the child doesn't tell. Eventually the drunken mother has a bad night and takes it out on the child killing her in the process. The "concrete angel" comes from the lyrics where the child "stands hard as stone", "she can't rise above" and "her dreams give her wings". It also relates in the last verse of the description of a concrete angel statue over her grave.
