The current actor playing Doctor Who until December 2017 is played by Peter Capaldi also known as the Twelfth Doctor. BBC recently announced the next Doctor Who (13th Doctor) as Jodie Whittaker who becomes first ever female Time Lord to play the role.
Peter will step down as the Doctor at the end of the year after starring in his final season, and his regeneration scene is expected to take place during the 2017 Christmas special.
