Kim, known as Jake to his friends, presumably due to his mother's surname, was a musician and songwriter. He told me he played with Bryan Ferry. He wrote many songs for different groups/singers. For example, Fine Time for Yazz. He had many friends who played with the biggest bands. I met one who was playing with Pink Floyd at the time. Jake lived with Joan Le Mesurier in Sitges in Spain, which is where I met him whilst on holiday in 1987. He was very unassuming about his famous parents. In fact, when I asked, on the beach, whether his parents had been musicians, after him telling me he was a musician, he said they were actors. I asked if they were well-known. "Quite well-known." "Who was your father?" I asked. "John Le Mesurier." "Oh, I liked him" I said. "So did I" Jake replied.

It was only at the end of my holiday over a week later, after clubbing all night and waiting for a train at 7 am to take me on a marathon train-ride back to Paris that I asked him who his mother was and realised it was Hattie Jacques.

Jake was one of the reasons I then moved to Barcelona from Paris, although I saw a lot less of him once I started work on the Olympics there, due to his lifestyle being more nocturnal and mine not.

He sadly died of a drug overdose in 1991. Ironically he had gone to Spain to get away from the temptation of drugs in the music business. He once told me when I wondered about his past drug-taking, "I've been round the block".
