he is the district officer in Tanganyika. he was a man in his early thirties , who had a wife Mary and three very small children , a boy of six a girl of four and a baby.they had a black nurse to watch the children playing. they lived in a house called sanford house and it was on a hill outside the town. sanford was the person who looked out for everything that happened in thr village. he was a really happy man to live in a peacful village like this but the only thing the sanford family hate was snakes. there were many big and poisonous snakes in the village.an not to forget there were lons too. becuse of sanfords gun a woman in the village was also saved when it was taking her away to it's cave... sanford is areally good person who loves his family and his villagers too. it was really kind of him to let roald dahl stay in his house for a night.
