Emma Macalik Butterworth is the author of As The Waltz Was Ending. She grew up in Vienna in the 1930's and was a young Ballet student at the Vienna State Opera. Unfortunately, WWII intervened in her career as a ballet dancer and living in Vienna survival became more important than dancing. After many harrowing experiences, she survived WWII and as girl of 18 fell in love and married an American soldier from the Northeast. She moved to America, first to Pennsylvania for two years, and then lived the rest of her life in Alabama. Her husband was a successful author. Emma also wrote an important work on calligraphy which was one of her passions as well as the aforementioned As The Waltz Was Ending which tells of her life growing up in Vienna. As The Waltz Was Ending is well worth reading.
