While never clearly defined, it would appear- in line with Hollywood tradition that the Clampetts hailed from a backward region such as the Ozarks. Hillbillies implies mountainous terrain. The basic plot was overloaded with impossibilities- implausibilities and non-sequiturs, an essentially thirties plot ( including the old time truck)- updated to the fifties and sixties ( and modern cars shown) it just was- well impossible.
