The producers of Einstein on the Beach have steadfastly refused the option of ever having it filmed. The reason, as I understand it, is that they believe no film or video can ever replace the mesmerising experience of seeing and hearing the work in a live theatre. Having had the thrill of seeing Einstein on the Beach performed in Australia in 1992 I can appreciate their stance on this, however frustrating it is for those many thousands who, for whatever reason, could not attend a performance in 1976, 1984 or 1992. "Einstein on the Beach: The Changing Image of Opera" is not a filmed performance - it is in fact a documentary running just under an hour, a highly worthwhile examination of the 1984 staging of the work, containing memorable interviews with Glass, Wilson and some of the cast, together with a few glimpses of actual performance.

PhilIp Glass began studying and playing the flute at a young age before becoming a famous composer. While being well versed in all types of instruments, he still plays the keyboard with his Philip Glass Ensemble. He is a very accomplished composer as three of his film scores have actually been nominated for Academy Awards.

Most do, but some, such as Philip Glass's Einstein on the Beach has no real story to it.
Albert Einstein. The opera 'Einstein on the Beach' scored and written by Philip Glass and is defined by him as "portrait" opera to portray a man whose personal vision transformed the thinking of their time through the power of ideas and not arms.

No, they did not. Einstein On The Beach is an opera written by minimalist composer Phillip Glass and directed for the theatre by Robert Wilson (not a Beach Boy). The opera inspired a song by Counting Crows called "Einstein On The Beach (For An Eggman)" which was not written by any of the Beach Boys. Finally, because Albert Einstein died in 1955, six years before the formation of the group, it is not possible that The Beach Boys wrote Einstein while on the beach -- unless they were very young kids sitting in the sand doing a civics or science project.
