Marjane Satrapi lives with her parents in Iran, and because of the new Islamic Republic she has to change her traditions. At age Eight(1978) Marjane dreams of becoming a prophet and saving the world, and the New Islamic Republic announces the age of the "guardians of the revolution" who control people. They witness the collapse of the Shah's brutal regime, now Marjane has to cover her face and her dreams of ever becoming a prophet. Every female must wear a veil to cover the face and hair to keep men from getting "excited". Even though Marjane and the girls she went to school with didn't understand the reason that they had to wear the veil they did anyway ; they used them for toys on the playground , but at least they had them .
