well in the universal studios they showed a video of the makers and they said that it was an actual twister that happened somewhere around 1978 or somethiing .. (but idk if they were there when it happened or not)

No. The movie is a complete work of fiction and has many innacuracies about both tornadoes and storm chasing. The only bit of reality is the concept of the instrument pack "Dorothy" which is loosely based on a probe named "TOTO," which was created and unsuccessfully deployed about ten years before Twister was made.
