Answer

The shark in Jaws is not real. Except for a few scenes, they used mechanical sharks to make the movies.

Answer

Jaws is partially based on a few true stories (see the Wikipedia entry), mainly the 1916 incident in which a bull shark terrorized a New England community, committing five attacks, four of them fatal, and three of them in fresh water eleven miles from the sea. This incident is mentioned in the movie as Chief Brody tries to convince the mayor to close the beaches.
