The movie The Perfect Storm was based on the loss of the F/V Andrea Gail from Gloucester, MA. However, once the Andrea Gail lost contact with the Hanna Boden, no more was known about the series of events that happened in that storm. All that was known is that the ship and all her crew was lost. The events after the last radio contact, until the inevitable acceptance of the community that the ship was never going to return, was fictionalized (based on other experiences that sailors may have had in other storms). No one survived to tell the story.
