It's certainly a classic in the genre, but as a movie, it is a bit lacking overall. The budget is fairly small, the acting isn't phenomenal, the special and makeup effects aren't great, and it moves at a pretty quick pace...but it is still a fine film of the genre and worth a watch.
In the original novel "Hellbound Heart", the person (the Pinhead), was so fed up with various forms of lust, that he started looking for advanced forms of pain as pleasure, which opened a door to the Engineers, referred in the movies as Cenobites, who introduced him to extreme forms of flesh games, ultimately making him into the Pinhead.
The closest movie to the novel was Hellraiser II, directed by the author of the book, Clive Baker.
It was simply called 'Hellraiser'.
Pinhead - Hellraiser - was created in 1986.
The name of the horror movie is called 'The People Under The Stairs'.
