He is probably gay, at least bi-sexual. I listened to NIN and bought all their stuff when I was young and nieve in the early nineties. When I was a bit older, I noticed lyrics like "when I suck you off, not a drop will go to waste", "it comes down to your kiss, your fist", "come come come you've gotta fill me up", "covered in hope and vaseline", "how did you get so big, how did you get so hard" and so on and so on.... The list is very long and I just refused to listen to it anymore. The name "Nine inch nails" is itself a reference to a penis. So how anyone can say he isn't is beyond me, because he is Cliff Richard in the making - staying in the closet and not coming out!
this answer has some points above, yet at the same time it make some weird assumption
"when I suck you off, not a drop will go to waste"
is referring to him having to "pleasing" a record company into selling his music
instead of him just being able to have freedom of expression
Marilyn Manson makes his own comment on this in a interview saying that he makes the record company "blow him"
"it comes down to your kiss, your fist"
refers to a love hate relationship....nothing remotely gay about that
"come come come you've gotta fill me up"
this one could be taken as gay how ever, but he could also be talking about god, or just fulfillment in something
"covered in hope and vaseline"
a lot of artists use the word Vaseline, even emenem who appears anti gay refers to "ass fu****g" in a lot of his songs.
but knowing Trent from his "starf***rs" song Vaseline and "hope" is more a refinance to models and like people in miss America or something of the sort.
"how did you get so big, how did you get so hard"
this one i well say is also verry gay sounding....of cource he could be referring from a girls prospective
what was funny what that a line from "march of the pigs" was missed
"take the skin and peel it back, now duesnt it make feel better.
wich is most likely talking about foreskin.
but to be honest, even Marilyn Manson
"i can be your little girl"
and Brian molko from placebo
"my sweet prince"
make lots of gay, trans, or bi comments in their songs.
but i know Trent's ex girl, and from her he is BI.
but though i would correct some things before just saying it
According to the interview listed bellow he is at least bi-curious. Not sure if hes followed up on that but it was taken in 1994 so a lot has happened since then.

I don’t know if Trent Reznor is gay but his boyfriend that worked as a waiter at Commander’s Palace in New Orleans most assuredly was gay.
Trent Reznor is really the only "member" of NIN, as he writes the music, and plays pretty much all the instruments, and of course sings on all the albums. He's had various different musicians for live concerts though.
Nine Inch Nails, or NIN for short. The Nine Inch Nails-Jane's Addiction bill last year had a great name.
Trent Reznor - nine inch nails, however after johnny cash covered it, reznor never sang the song live again.
"Hurt" the song made famous by the moving video by Johnny Cash was written by Trent Reznor of 'Nine Inch Nails'.
Nine Inch Nails is one of the most influential bands of the 90's and still is today. They are definetely what defines the Industrial genre and remain one of the most out spoken original msic acts to date. Not to mention nobody sticks it to the man like Trent Reznor.

Trent Reznor did not start his career in Nine Inch Nails. He previously was a member of a band called "The Innocent", "Exotic Birds" and "Option 30".
Trent Reznor has said, "[Nine Inch Nails] really doesn't have any literal meaning. It seemed kind of frightening."

Being the lead singer of Nine Inch Nails I am guessing pretty rich.
Is a one man band which was created by Trent Reznor and has over 27 albums
Nine Inch Nails is not "done". Trent Reznor has just retired the band from touring for the next ten years or so. He still makes music.

Closer, which is sung by Trent Reznor is featured on the Nine Inch Nails album, The Downward Spiral. The song was released on that 1994 album, The Downward Spiral.
Yes. Trent Reznor just retired the band from touring, he still works and makes music.
Nine Inch Nails was never a band in its purest form, so it would be impossible for it to "break up". The live entity of Nine Inch Nails usually varies in its members and at the time being, is put on hold for a few years to allow Trent Reznor to pursue his other aspirations. Nine Inch Nails as a studio entity is, however, still alive according to Trent.
