Topo Gigio ( approximately Little Louis Mouse) was a puppet character on the old Ed Sullivan show. At least two or three operators were necessary to lend (Life) to Topo Gigio. at least one of the operators was a female. ( did not voice the character, though) It was good comic relief on the Sullivan show for many years and unusual in being a three-dimensional dummy of an animal nature- quite different from animal Cartoons. All of the crew were Italians or Italilan-Americans. I don"t know what happened to the act. Sullivan died in the seventies and the show did also.

"Only in the movies"; specifically, in the movie Santa Claus 1.In addition to this answer: see the related Wikipedia link listed below.(He was actually saying "Topo Gigio".)Topo Gigio is a Italian mouse puppet occasionally seen onthe Ed Sullivan Show; he really doesn't have anything at all to do with Santa or Christmas. However, there was an episode of The Ed Sullivan Show (a Christmas special) in which Topo dresses up like Santa....References in popular culture"When Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) is giving alternative names for Santa Claus to the police officer in the interrogation scene, Scott imitates Ed Sullivan when he says the name "Topo Gigio." This is a reference to at least one episode of The Ed Sullivan Show, in which Gigio dresses as and imitates Santa."
