However it's important to note that the Slytherin's we see in the book only represent a small portion of the house and that not all of the pupils sorted into that house are evil or pure-blood supremacists. So the students we don't say might not have any problem with him.

Not closely but all pure-blood wizards are releated some way and Harry's father was a pure-blood wizard as was the Dumbledore family.
