Judy and I have once again spent a wonderful afternoon in the company of Hannah. I am glad to report that she is still alive and living in the same house. She was 83 years old on the 1st August 2009. Her physical health is what you might expect of a lady in her eighties but she's still as sharp as ever. She is without doubt a jewel nestling in the chaos of her home in Cotherstone; humble, content, unspoilt, graceful, kind and remarkably knowledgeable of the outside world from which she is so far removed, and that is the foundation of this lady's attraction.
We always come away feeling touched by her grace and feeling privileged for having become welcome visitors over the last few years. Our first meeting with Hannah was remarkable in the extreme as it came about by my saying to Judy, literally, "I'm going to see Hannah Hauxwell" when at the time she was only known to me as a lady featured in an earlier TV documentary. This happened after enjoying a picnic in the countryside. We were heading out to Alston moor but we turned back and were amply rewarded for our determination to find her. We knew she lived in Cotherstone but we didn't have her exact address.
So on Tuesday the 17th November 2009 Hannah Hauxwell was, and is, still with us. If you want to know more about this remarkable lady simply Google her name and you will find a host of writings and videos.
