There is no specific evidence that this pairing will happen in the series 'Naruto' as they don't really talk; however there have been a few times when they have been caught staring at each other and this has caused people to think that they might have an attraction to each other.
Even though the tattoo on Gaara's forehead means that he only loves himself, this scar was caused by Shukaku and not Gaara himself which means that its the demon that loves himself, it doesnt necessarily mean that Gaara only loves himself and not others.

In the later series of 'Naruto' he starts to gain control of Shukaku and Naruto shows him about friendship and caring for others, he rebuilds the alliance between the 'Leaf village' and the 'Sand village'; Gaara now helps 'Konoha' on many missions and is starting to build friendships with people.
Since this new side of Gaara has appeared he has taken a few glances at Sakura and this has inspired alot of people to create fan clubs and fanfiction based on this simple fact.
