The detective in Practical Magic is Officer Gary Hallet. Officer Gary Hallet is in the movie in order to solve where the man called, Jimmy Angelov disappeared to. In his search for the Jimmy Angelov he meets Sally Owens and instantly falls for her. In the end Officer Hallet solves his case, but doesn't like what he finds out about Sally Owens. Because he discovers that she and her sister Gillian Owens in fact murdered Jimmy Angelov in order to save their lives. The movie ends with Officer Gary Hallet and Sally ending up together, but it was a long and hard road for them.
