In order to prevent Lord Narigutsu from crosing into a town, Shinzaemon, leader of the 13, had to work with Yukie Makino and buy the town out. Makino committed harakiri for two reasons: 1) It was Makino who asked his son to ask his wife to fetch Narigutsu's entertainment, leading to his son's murder and his son's wife's rape and death. For this, Makino was very ashamed. 2) Makino wanted to leave no evidence that he worked with Shinzaemon.
