Milly was born and raised "proper and immaculate" and she even chopped wood - she didn't realize at the time she was "Pontipee" material because she was such a hard worker.

Her parents were dead and she lived with a minister's family. When she married Adam Pontipee and he brought her home to meet his 6 younger brothers, she knew she had her work cut out for her:

1. She cleaned the house and washed and mended their clothes

2. She told the brothers to "clean themselves up and shave" and she taught them proper table manners

3. She taught the brothers how to behave in polite society

4. She taught the brothers about girls and women

5. She kicked BOTH her husband and his brothers out of the house and sent them to eat and sleep in the barn with the rest of the livestock when they kidnapped their future brides

6. She kept the girls in the house with her and took care of them

7. She had the girls act as midwives when she gave birth to her daughter, Hannah

Milly's toughness was REALLY tough love.
